Mobile Video Advertising Revenue

Digital advertising is growing at a much faster pace year on year and mobile technology ranks as a major distributing channel for delivering advertisement. In 2013, North America became the largest mobile advertising market, overtaking Asia-Pacific, according to the IAB 2013 Global Mobile Video Advertising Revenue Report.

  • Mobile video advertising revenue in Asia-Pacific in 2012 was at $4.4 million and increased in 2013 at $7.5 million whereas in North America the mobile ad revenues reached $3.6 million in 2012 and experienced growth to $8.1 million a year later.
  • In Europe, mobile video advertising revenue ranked at $1.7 million in 2012 and almost doubled in 2013 at $3.3 million.

However, Asia-Pacific maintains a marginal lead in mobile display advertising (such as banners or video) although the market is rapidly growing in North America also.

  • The mobile display ad revenue in Asia Pacific registered a growth to $3.3 million in 2013 with North America following closely behind at $3.2 million.
  • In Europe, the mobile display ad revenue reached $1.3 million in 2013.

The ad revenues for mobile search advertising remain approximately unchanged across regions.

  • In North America, the mobile search ad revenue peaked at $4.3 million in 2013 and in Asia-Pacific at $3.2 million.
  • Europe registered $1.8 million in mobile search ad revenues in 2013.

The gap between mobile messaging ad revenues across regions is smaller when compared to mobile search advertising revenues.

  • Asia-Pacific generated mobile messaging ad revenues worth $9.5 million in 2013 and North America worth $5.1 million in 2013.
  • In Europe, the mobile messaging ad revenues were at $2.1 million in 2013.

Globally, the mobile ad revenue continues to grow, having increased by more than 92%, from $10 million in 2012 to $19.3 million in 2013. The global growth of ad revenue was higher for display mobile ad revenue than for messaging and search in 2013. The mobile ad growth in 2013 was at 123% for display, 92% for search, and 19% for messaging.
